Vertical Landscape, 2018
Paper print, wheat paste
42 x 110 inches

This work considers the history of photography in exploring the American West. Photographers such as Ansel Adams and Carleton Watkins sought to capture the drama of the Western landscape, often composing their images to create dramatic senses of scale and contrast. In comparison to the ubiquitous image technology of phones and GoPros that are engineered to capture stunning imagery, I used the aging technology of a digital scanner to create color and abstract pattern within black and white photography.
